PROJECT REPORT

The project has managed to complete the following activities: -

Mnarani Project

-         Reconnection of tap water, the water tank is filled with tap water, as the system of rainwater could not work.

-         Renovation of 3 classroom roofs and installing transparent sheets.

-         A bigger library was created to give room for the children and locals to upgrade the education standard. So far we have done the ceiling, inserted burglarproof windows and plastered the inside of the room. We are remaining with the books shelves to be made.

-         Earlier this year we held a prize-giving day at the school and we targeted the 1st 2nd and 3rd positions per class, to motivated children and compete among themselves.

-         School trip was held on 31/7/07 and costed Kshs 37,000/-transport and entry fee to the National park.

-         Some broken desks were mended totally to 15 desks at a cost of Kshs 4,500/-

-         The administration block was furnished with curtains, and every teacher given a table desk and a chair.

-         The teachers were given Kshs 50,000/- as motivation to divide amongst 22 teachers.

-         The lawyer is yet to inform us on the indemnity form and registration of the project.

-         We have approximately £3,800/- in UK and Kshs 480,000/- in Kenya Commercial Bank.

Somo Na Mlo

-         With the high rate of orphan children the project introduced a feeding program for the needy children, with the help of individual volunteers raising funds and so far the project has managed to raise Kshs 255,776/-.  We have 48 needy children feeding in the program. The project only feeds the very needy orphan children.

Bahari Girls Charitable Trust

A Volunteer sponsor has come up to assist girl child education in secondary education and funds school fees for 10 children per year with less 15% school fee from the parents. The project took off this project early this year and so far; -

-         We have managed to recruit 10 girls to the school after a means assessment.

-         The sponsor has transferred only Kshs 167,507 to cover for their school fees. The total fess for the girls is Kshs 196,964/- there is a balance of Kshs 29,457/- to be cleared with the project account.

-         The parents of these girls were to clear an agreed percentage of 15% to the school. The headteacher will update us before the year ends.

-         We have involved the Area District Education Officer in assisting us get the needy girls with the required qualifications for our intentions next year.

Others

-         The County Council of Kilifi is building 2 classrooms at the Mnarani Primary School and the construction has already started. We will do the finishing of these 2 classrooms as the money donated by this Council is not enough.

-         The Parents Teachers Association account has managed to buy a CPU to the donated computer, the project has also bought a keyboard and mouse for them as the donated one had keys not functioning.

The first and second lot students who finished secondary school have joined colleges and university.
