The
village of Mnarani is today a typical Kenyan coastal community, the
traditional Dhow trade has long ceased and the villagers mainly work in
the 'informal sector. That is traditional crafts for the tourist trade and
casual work when available. The local hotel, The Mnarani Club, provides
some local employment as does Kilifi Plantatations.
There is still an active fishing fleet departing in outrigger sailing
boats fishing both off the reef and in the open sea. The catch is sold
both to the hotel and in the Mombasa markets. |

is not however a major tourist stopover and thus employment opportunities
are limited and sought after. The people of Mnarani are however proud of
their village and surroundings and are determined to create a future for
their children. |
